How to Play Blackjack

  • 1Place your bet using the chip buttons, then hit Deal. You and the dealer each receive two cards. One dealer card stays face down until your turn ends.
  • 2Your goal is to build a hand value closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. Number cards are face value, face cards are 10, and Aces are 1 or 11.
  • 3Hit to take another card. Stand to end your turn and let the dealer play. Go over 21 and you bust -- losing your bet immediately.
  • 4Double Down to double your bet and receive exactly one more card. Use this when you have a strong hand like 10 or 11.
  • 5Split when your first two cards are the same rank -- your hand becomes two separate hands, each with its own bet equal to your original wager.
  • 6Blackjack -- an Ace plus a 10-value card -- pays 3 to 2 and wins instantly unless the dealer also has Blackjack.
  • 7The dealer must hit on 16 or below and stand on 17 or above. If the dealer busts, all remaining player hands win.

About BlackjackFix

BlackjackFix is a free skill-based card game for entertainment only. No real money, no wagering, no prizes of any monetary value are involved. All chips are virtual and exist solely for gameplay purposes.

Blackjack -- also known as 21 -- originated in French casinos around 1700 under the name Vingt-et-Un. It spread across Europe and arrived in American gambling halls in the 1800s. Today it is one of the most studied card games in the world, with a well-documented basic strategy that reduces the house edge to under 1% with perfect play.

Start with 1,000 chips and see how high you can build your stack. Your personal best chip count is saved locally in your browser.

Basic Strategy Tips

Always stand on 17 or higher. Always hit on 8 or below. Double down on 10 or 11 when the dealer shows a weak card (2 through 9). Never split 10s -- a 20 is too strong to break up. Always split Aces and 8s. Stand on 12 through 16 when the dealer shows 2 through 6 -- let the dealer bust.

The single biggest mistake casual players make is hitting on 12-16 when the dealer is weak. Trust the math -- when the dealer shows a 4, 5, or 6, they bust more often than not. Stand, protect your hand, and let them beat themselves.
